jCVS problems with CVS 1.10.4

Since I upgraded my cvs server to 1.10.4, jCVS is unable to check out
files or do any operations on CVS. I have no idea what happened. The
command line clients seem to be able to check files out, in, stat, log,
etc just fine.

I have no clue about why jCVS is unable to operate on any CVS
repository. I saw some posts over the last few days about jCVS users
having trouble beacause they forgot to do the --allow-root in
inetd.conf, but otherwise they seem to be humming along just fine. This
is not my problem. like I said,  the command line clients work fine.

There errors I keep getting are : ...

Protocol error: Root request missing
The command encountered an error.

I am using jCVS 4.7.3 on Slackware and Redhat Linux. Any help would be
great. once again I am pulling my hair out over jCVS ...
