Please don't! At least not yet...

JDK 1.2 has *huge* memory and performance issues at the momment, and you
would imediately cut off every platform other than Windows and Solaris.
Many other platforms have "nearly complete" or "in progress" JDK 1.2
implementations, but I'm not aware of any other finished version other
than the 2 Javasoft releases. (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Also our deployment platform is JDK 1.1.x and I'd rather not have jdk
1.2 on my machine too, its got an annoying habit of making it difficult
to run applications under 1.1 because it hacks around with the registry
so 'java' and 'javac' always refer to the 1.2 versions, unless you
explicitly do 'c:\jdk1.1.X\bin\java' absolutely everywhere.
