[jcvs] jcvs hangs...

Greetings,

I'm new to this list and offer a friendly 'hi' to one and all.

I'm also new to linux and cvs, and got involved with them as I was
advised cvs is an excellent version control system, with jcvs an
excellent cross platform client. I quite agree.
After various newbie woes and tribulations, I talked to my cvs server
running on a compaq running linux with jcvs from both a mac and another pc.
After getting a small test module to work, I loaded up my reason for
trying in the first place...a 3.6 meg 400 file java project.
To my dismay, on both pc and a mac, it hung right at the beginning,
saying 'reading server response' and never checked out the module. I
wasn't frozen and jcvs could quit, it just didn't work.

I searched the list archive and tried setting my GZip file mode to false
and Gzip stream level to 0. No change.

There is so much to digest about cvs alone (and jcvs) I'm sure I may be
missing something...permissions on folders and files on the server are
correct. Do I need to set something special about the user I'm logging
in as?

Are there memory size limitations or switches in cvs I can hit to up
it's performance? There's 64 megs of ram on the server.

Is this project too big (I doubt it.) Any suggestions?

Thanks in a dvance,
